Teacher quick-start
Everything great about AIccommodate, no roster needed.
A getting-started guide for teachers using AIccommodate as a personal prep studio — before your school or district has officially signed on. Follow this practical starter session with sample information.
First, the one rule
Keep real student information out. No real student names typed anywhere, no IEP details, no test scores, and students never log in to anything. Everything else in this guide is fair game.
Here's why: AIccommodate is built FERPA-first, and real student records only come in after a school signs formal data agreements with us. Until your district does that, you use the half of the platform that never needs a roster — importing your assignments, adapting materials, and generating accommodations-ready versions. That's honestly most of the day-to-day value.
Privacy screening: the app screens recognized names and identifying details in text before AI processing. Screening can miss information. Treat it as a safety net, not permission — the clean habit is simply: materials in, student records out.
Create your account
Go to app.aiccommodate.com and choose Sign up at the bottom of the login card. Enter your name, email, and a password — or use Sign up with Google.
Every new account starts a 14-day free trial automatically — no card needed to explore. After that it's $14.99 per teacher per month; when the time comes, the upgrade lives under your name in the top-right → Account → Subscription & Billing.
Tip: bookmark app.aiccommodate.com and always come back through that exact address — it keeps you signed in reliably.
Take the tour of your home screen
You land on My Courses. A Sample Class is usually waiting for you, pre-loaded with clearly fake students and a sample assignment — it exists exactly so you can click around and break nothing.
The ghost card in the grid. Pick a grade and subject and it sets the course up (and generates the course art).
A catch-all card for one-off work — name an assignment and press New without creating a course at all.

Bring in your assignments
Three doors — use whichever fits the assignment in front of you.
Import from Google Classroom. Open a course → Import assignments → From Google Classroom → connect your Google account, pick the Classroom course, tick the assignments you want, and import. It copies assignment titles and instructions only — no rosters, student work, or grades, and it's a one-time copy, not a sync.
Import from Canvas. Same spot, From Canvas. You'll paste your school's Canvas address plus an access token (in Canvas: Account → Settings → New Access Token). The token is stored encrypted on the server.
Paste or upload. Press New assignment in any course, name it, and the workspace opens asking for content: Paste Text, Upload File (PDF, DOCX, TXT & more), Image / Camera for a photo of a worksheet, plus YouTube, URL, and Google Drive. Then press Continue.
Google gotcha: when Google shows its permission screen, the checkboxes start unchecked. Tick them, or the import won't be able to see your classes and you'll wonder what went wrong.
Meet the assignment workspace
Open an assignment and let the app analyze it, then review the page around it. It may ask a couple of quick clarifying questions — answer or skip them.
Summary, directions, and rubric pulled from your content — all editable, with Re-analyze if you change the material.
The tools that fit this assignment, one click to run. Results land in Outputs on this assignment at the bottom.
Detected standards to confirm or dismiss, and a UDL read on the assignment — click any UDL row for a plain-English explanation with real research citations.
Any output exports as a PDF or straight to a Google Doc.
Want to preview the roster magic — safely? The IEP/504 Accommodations panel will say "No students in this class yet." Press Add sample students and it loads a small set of clearly-labeled fake students so you can watch accommodations light up against your real assignment. That's the sanctioned way to see it. Never add real students.
Find your go-to tools
Use the assignment’s suggested tools or the AI Tools browser to find a tool that fits your material. Start with sample information and check each tool’s source requirements. Examples include:
Review the result against the source and the learning target before sharing.
Talk to Atticus (AI Chat)
When signed in, open AI Chat from the navigation or its floating button. Atticus is an AI assistant for teaching. Recognized identifying details in text are screened before AI processing, but screening can miss information. Use sample information and review the Privacy Policy’s audio and image disclosures.
Ask anything — lesson ideas, IEP-meeting prep questions, special-ed law and best-practice questions, how-do-I questions about the app itself. It can search the web when it needs current information.
Attach files (PDF, Word, images, or straight from Google Drive), generate images, have it write documents in the Documents panel beside the chat (export as PDF or Google Doc), and have it build real Excel and PowerPoint files.
The power move: click the small "Work on a class assignment" icon in the message bar and pin one of your assignments. Ask for a draft — for example, "suggest shorter directions for this task" — and review it. Supported material tools can save outputs to the assignment; a chat reply is not automatically a saved assignment material.
Same rule as everywhere: talk about "my student who struggles with multi-step directions," not a named child.
Skip these for now
These are the roster-aware features — the reason the platform exists long-term. They switch on for real when a school signs the data agreements, and they're the part worth showing your principal someday.
| Leave alone | Why |
|---|---|
| Students & Classes (real roster) | Real names are exactly the data your district hasn't approved. Sample students only. |
| AI Tutor toggle | It's student-facing — kids would log in and chat, which means their data. Leave it Off. |
| Parent access codes | The family portal serves real student pages; it needs a real, approved roster. |
| Test-score uploads (MAP, etc.) | Real scores are student records. Same rule. |

Quick answers
Used this way — your materials, zero student records, no student logins — it sits in the same category as any other teacher prep tool. The roster features stay off until a district signs on officially.
No. It's a prep lab, not an LMS — import is a one-time copy, and nothing flows back to Classroom or Canvas.
14-day free trial on every new account, then $14.99 per teacher per month.
Ask Atticus first — it knows the app. Humans: hello@aiccommodate.com.
